How does Hippo Car Sell work?

It couldn’t be simpler! You enter your car registration number in our quote box and enter a few details. If your car is for us, you can choose from 3 options to receive your guaranteed price valuation.

You can simply upload a few images, choose to do a video call with one of our helpful agents or request a 30-minute call back so we can discuss your car further. There’s no haggling, no pushy sales tactics, and no jargon.

How do I get a valuation?

For a free online valuation, simply enter your reg number on our homepage and fill out the following prompts such as mileage and email address. If your car is for us, you’ll receive a valuation range based on those basic details entered.

However, to receive an accurate and guaranteed valuation, you need to complete one of our three appraisal methods: uploading photos using our valuation tool, booking a video call or speaking directly to one of our agents.

How do I send pictures of my car?

You can do this in three easy ways: either include them in the appraisal form when you click on the link provided, send them as an email attachment, or WhatsApp them to us.

Are there any conditions to the guaranteed valuation I receive?

The guaranteed valuation you receive is valid for seven days. This valuation is based on information provided by yourself, so it is important that this is 100% accurate. If there are aspects that haven’t been disclosed, e.g. physical defects, then we have the ability to lower this offer or reject the vehicle entirely.

Is the price you quoted guaranteed?

The initial car valuation you receive will be subject to physically viewing your vehicle (either by images or video call). Once we’ve seen your vehicle, the quote we give will be guaranteed for 7 days.

How long do I have to decide if I want to accept your offer?

You have 7 days to decide whether you’d like to go ahead with our offer.

What happens when I accept your offer?

Once you’ve accepted our offer, we’ll give you a call to arrange when you’d like the car collected. You can also choose to drop-off at one of our dealerships if this is more convenient for you. You’ll then receive instant payment once we take the car away.

What cars do you buy?

Please bear in mind that we do not purchase commercial vehicles such as taxis, vans, trucks, private hire vehicles and pick-ups.

What happens if I’m not happy with the price you offer?

You don’t have to accept our final, guaranteed offer, but bear in mind how quickly we can take your car off your hands – that’s time when you don’t have to worry about making more payments, or it losing any more value.

Does my car need to have a current MOT?

You will need to give us the date when your car had its last MOT as part of the appraisal.

What if my car still has finance outstanding?

Don’t worry – just send us a letter showing a settlement figure from your finance company and we will take it from there and settle directly for you.

Do you charge any other fees for buying my car?

Unlike others, we do not charge any admin or collection fees.

How quickly will I get paid?

We offer immediate payments when you sell your car to us. If you’ve chosen a collection, then you’ll be paid before we take your car away. If you choose to drop your car off, we will pay you there and then.

How do you pay me for the car?

We’ll pay you via instant banking so you’ll receive your funds immediately when you sell your car to us.

When would you collect my car as I work during the week?

We can arrange a collection to suit you, or, depending on your location, we can look drop-off options for you.

What do I need to provide on day of sale (documentation etc)?

On the day of sale, we require the following:

  • Your V5 logbook/registration certificate. This needs to be registered in the name of the current keeper.
  • Any service history/service books
  • Photo ID. E.g., drivers licence, passport.
    Car keys (including any spares).
Do you buy SORN cars?

No we are unable to purchase SORN cars

Do you buy damaged cars?

Depending on the extent of the damage, we can consider purchasing your car. We would require images of your car to complete an appraisal to determine if we can offer to buy your car based on its damage.

My car is an import, will you still buy it?

No, we do not buy imported cars.

Can I sell a car if the owner has passed away?

Yes, if you have the right to sell a car belonging to someone who has passed away, you can sell it to Hippo Car Sell.

How long do you have to have owned a car to sell it to Hippo Motor Group?

We need you to have owned the car for a minimum of six months for us to purchase it from you.
